" Elsinore Eye Opener"   THIS POST READ 151 times.
POSTED: Monday, June 1st, 2009 08:29:39 PM   |  UPDATED:

What can a person do when they have too little time and too much work.

Re-evaluate priorities. The best of time management consultants will tell you to jot down what you do each day (tasks), jot down your priorities, jot down the rewards associated with those tasks, to see where you are wasting time.

I did that and lo and behold I wasted 2016 hours a month. I don't feel bad. I feel great, because now I have 2016 hours (almost 3 months a year) of my life back.

The other bonus is that what I was doing for those 2016 hours was an expense to me.

We have all spent time and money (with little to no payback) doing things that we find gratifying. Well for those of us who build tools the best gratification is not necessarily selling the tool but seeing it put to work. The saddest thing is to build a tool, give it away for free, and see it not being used.

It is almost as sad as drawing up plans and blueprints for a parking lot so a city can approve a drag boat race and find most people trying to re-draw the plan to fit their whim and need regardless of repercussions to others.

Nicer people call that clickish ... I call it selfish assholes with shit for brains.

Mike Fry took over a week from his successful construction business and allocated a dedicated employee, to draw up plans for a past drag boat event.

When we arrived at the event (a while back) our allocated space was gone, but Mike Fry did take care of us and allow us to park in and even better space ... thank you to the click groups who groaned and moaned to be nearer to whatshisface.

I unlike Mike Fry would have made them stay were they were, but luckily Mike Fry is nicer than me, (and I do not say that just because he is one of our favorite racers and on the board of the NJBA directors) and bites his tongue better than I do.

I just have a hard time with
"it's all about me people ... I don't give a shit if you assigned two employees and a week of lost labor to organize this pit ... I want WHATEVER ... so tear up your blueprints and accomodate me"
they should learn to be more gracious and less self centered.

Selfishness brings me back to how I am saving 3 months a year and a few thousand dollars.

I wrote a code to analyize who visited our site, what pages they viewed, how long they stayed and how much they participated (because I got sick of lip service like ... I love your site I am always on it ... knowing they really weren't and I hate bullshiters.

We have had more than a quarter of a million visits in the past year. Most of them are from non-racers, fans, vendors and sponsors interested in racers but the racers were too busy gossiping about the IHBA being sold and the a new association being a scam and slamming each other on whazz up sally sites.

For four years we have given free support of the sport by offering a free web page-bio, race results, news stories, REAL RACE CONTENT, better than some associations offered starting with a N, but for what? In our minds it was for the promotion of the sport and to help racers with no website or a low traffic website show potential sponsors that they did show up, qualify and race at venues.

Well thanks to the time managemnt course I can quit working for nothing.

The racers, for the majority did not participate actively and the ones that did we had to practically beg them to upload a bio.

This site offered (offered being the operative word) racers to upload news or event stories, start a new forum or participate in such, upload and update bios anytime and chat with each other.

After this last event, I have nothing to lose, I have decided to be smart and stop flogging a dead horse.

While scraper photographers from out of state, worked the pits (I call them scrapers because sleeze buckets might infer they had sites at photo bucket but sleeze bucket just meant they were photo whores who took your money gave you a photo and said the relationship ends here). A photo scrapers goal is to take money and they tell people to limp to get pity sales, dress guys in an official looking shirt like for example a firefighter and don't really give a shit for anything other than fattening their wallets. They don't have a vendors license or pay a vendors license fee, so they are also theives stealing money from honest vendors who paid their dues knowing times are tough, your on a budget and we are too, because they play on your emotions of instant gratification.

The photo scrapers print the photos, pimp your emotions and you just got raped because you needed it then.

Every racer comes to the race with x number of dollars in his pocket, they should use them to support those who give back to the sport not those who rape and pilage the sport. Real vendors have helped the club by paying a vendors fee or giving back in a promotion of the sport. These photo whore guys are blood suckers.

What gives me the right to say this, I have donated my blood countless times to no avail.

The photo people who support the sport and give back, like the official NJBA photographer, Mark McLaughlin, a great guy, and RAP who do not charge for site membership or promotion fees, are ruthlessly kicked to the curb.

The truth is there is no loyalty. Hotboats learned that the hard way.

So from here on in, my loyalty is to RAP sponsored boats, the race association directors and active participating members.

What does that mean?

If you want to link to us have a bio page you will have to pay monthly. Those who were good enough to participate to date and have uploaded their pro bio as of June 1st 2009, are granted a free pro bio page for the life of RAP.

Those who support scrapers deserve to get scrapped.

The only photographers/web developers, that give back to the drag boat racing sport are Duane Sims, Steve George, Mark Mclauglin and RAP.

I like seeing racers support Mark, he has earned it, although he doesn't have to maintain a labor intensive website to promote racers and owners, he gives back in other ways by giving free photo usage for flyers and calendars. We don't do that because the costs related to maintain. update and data upload this site is 48,000 per year. We feel we give plenty already.

To lower costs, I have decided, boat race qualifying, boat race results and boat race event photos will be uploaded for sponsored boats and active participating members only. Racer members who just login and look around and complain are not considered participating, so stop wasting our bandwidth and our time.

Am I angry ... heck no, that my friends is how I earned back three months of my life and 1 month of my data entry clerks life and will save 18,000 dollars that I can invest in some other venue that may not break even but may turn out to be a wiser win win investment.

Don't like it ... I'll mail you a quarter so you can call someone who cares.

For participating members it is business as usual and we thank you for your support and loyalty.
